How does QlikMaps use an internet connection from my web client?

Base functionality

QlikMaps requires an internet connection to properly display and resolve map tiles.

For example, in QlikMaps 2.0, QlikMaps makes a query to MapQuest's map server with 2 parameters of the current bounding box: NE corner Lat/Lng and SW corner Lat/Lng. Nothing more is required to pull back the proper map tiles, and nothing more is sent from QlikMaps.

Extra functionality

Extra features available in QlikMaps may make additional requests through your internet connection. Some of them are detailed below.

Note: as these features are not part of the "base functionality", these requests may be blocked without breaking the core QlikMaps functions; however, it is recommended to allow these requests.

Google Maps Street View

When drilling down to Street View on a point, QlikMaps will make a request to the Google Maps server with the location details for that point, and will return with the Street View details.

Google Live Search Queries

When using the search bar functionality, QlikMaps will make requests to the Google Search server with your query, and will return with the search results.

WMS/Tile (WMTS) layers

As of QlikMaps 2.1, which introduced WMS/Tile (WMTS) layers, use of those layers will require requests to the specified servers. QlikMaps resolves these layers similar to a base tile layer from MapQuest.

WMS/Tile (WMTS) popups

As of QlikMaps 2.1, which introduced WMS/Tile (WMTS) popups, use of those popups will require requests to the specified servers. QlikMaps resolves the returned data internally and will attempt to display a popup.
